John E. Riley Elementary School to Open 25 year Time Capsule Sealed in 1992

South Plainfield, NJ – November 20, 2017 – For the first time in 25 years, the contents of a time capsule sealed and buried in the ground in front of the John E. Riley Elementary School will be unearthed and opened.  The event will take place at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 20, 2017 in front of the school and all are welcome to attend.  The contents of the time capsule will be displayed later in the evening on November 20th in the gymnasium, at Riley School, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

The time capsule was placed in the ground on September 25, 1992 to mark the 25 year anniversary of Riley School with the intent of it being unearthed 25 years later.  A letter written by Anthony Sincavage, the sitting principal of Riley School at the time, marked the original event with great detail.  The letter was found in the school safe and stated:

To Whom It May Concern

On Friday, September 25, 1992, a Time Capsule was buried on the front lawn of Riley School (diagram enclosed).

A video tape have been made (enclosed) of the event which marked the beginning of the second 25 years of John E. Riley School.

A dogwood tree, in the center of the front lawn, was also planted to mark the occasion.

The top of the capsule is approximately 18” deep at the point beginning approximately two feet from the dogwood tree north towards the curbstone.

The capsule size is approximately 60: long x 28” wide x 18” deep.

The hope is that the capsule will be unearthed 25 years from now and its contents will be enjoyed by those present.

Please make sure to spread the word for this exciting event.

                                                                                                            Sincerely yours,
