School Principal

Ms. Rosaura Valarezo, Interim Principal

Principal

Dear Riley Parents and Guardians,

Please allow me to introduce myself as the interim principal of John E. Riley Elementary School for the 2020-2021 school year.  I began my career as an adjunct professor in Pan American Language Studies at Rutgers University in Newark.  Next, I taught 6th grade in Union City for half a year and taught in Jersey City school system grades 1 and 5th-8th for nine and a half years. During the latter part of those years I also was an adjunct professor at Seton Hall University in the bilingual graduate department.  I served in three administrative positions in the New Brunswick School District, first as a vice principal at Lincoln Professional Development School where I worked for four years.   Next, as a principal at Lord Stirling Community School where I served for six years and finally, as Principal of Bilingual, ESL and World Language Education for nine years in grades K-12.   I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from New Jersey City University in Elementary Education with a minor in music.  A Master of Arts degree in Bilingual Bicultural and ESL Education and an Educational Specialist degree in Administration and Supervision both from Seton Hall University.  Throughout my entire career, I have participated in various committees both at the district level and at the state level, always advocating for our children. I have also volunteered in various organizations because I believe it is important to assist others who are in need.   In my spare time I enjoy going for long walks, doing Zumba, cooking, gardening, reading an attending concerts as I enjoy listening to a variety of music genre.

I consider myself quite blessed to have wonderful, loving and hard-working parents who taught me to respect everyone and have a high work ethic.  I am also fortunate to have worked with so many fine educators throughout my 31 plus year career and have had the privilege to inspire hundreds of children.  I am passionate about education and believe that all children have the capacity and the desire to learn.  It is my strong believe that as educators, we must inspire all children to become lifelong learners and critical thinkers to prepare them for the 21st century.  I want all our children to continue to grow academically and continue to develop and acquire important principles such as: respect, kindness, care and compassion.

During this school year, my goal is to continue to work with teachers and staff in a collaborative manner as well as develop a strong partnership with the parents and the community. I am looking forward to continue to work with our PTSO.  I want to ensure that we provide a safe and positive school climate for all our students and staff where all parents feel welcomed.

I would like to thank Dr. Lishak and the Board of Education for once again affording me this wonderful opportunity to continue to serve our children.  I am excited about this upcoming school year and I am looking forward to meeting and working with all of you.  Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or concerns.

Respectfully yours,

Rosaura Valarezo, Ed.S
Interim Principal
